Last Player Standing was created in the winter of 2010 soon after the release of “Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty”, and “Call of Duty : Black Ops”. The founders of Last Player Standing saw the rise and popularity of eSports in other countries around the world, but they also saw the relative lack of popularity in North America. Last Player Standing was created to try to fill and expand the niche of eSports. The current state of eSports in North America is quite astonishing when you consider that two out of three North Americans play video games in some form or another, with 31% of this subset considering themselves hard core gamers.
As enticing as it may be, a Farmville tournament probably won't be in our grand plan anytime soon. We look for a game the masses will easily understand, but will be hard to master like any “real” sport. The rise of popularity of games like "Starcraft 2" and "Call of Duty" are providing mediums for average and hard core gamers to form a unique community. This community will hopefully form the base of eSports in the exciting years to come.
The goal of Last Player Standing is to provide a new and exciting media outlet for the growing audience of eSports. Its focus will be to create content for a community that includes casual, average, hard-core, and professional gamers. This company strives to provide excellent service with a level of professionalism not seen in eSports industry today. While the focus games of Last Player Standing are Starcraft 2 and Call of Duty at this time, more games like Magic:The Gathering, Heroes of Newerth, Defense of the Ancients, and Sports games will be considered in the future if the interest is there.
